Copyright and the Creator Economy

When: October 24, 2023 at 11:30am - 2:00pm EDT
Where: Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP

Summary

Join the Ottawa and Toronto Chapters for an exciting lunch-time program about creator content in Canada. Program will be hybrid.

In the creator economy, digital platforms, marketplaces, and tools allow individuals to create, adapt, share, and monetize content, with engaged audiences and communities. From fan fiction to reaction videos, challenges, tutorials, and podcasts—to name a few—individual creators generate all types of content on a vast range of topics and subject matter. “Traditional” entertainment companies have taken note, with responses varying from enabling and supporting the creation of “user” generated content, to enforcing against it, to sourcing content and talent from the creator economy for use in professional projects. Join our esteemed panel for a discussion of key copyright considerations that arise for creators, platforms, entertainment companies, and other stakeholders in the creator economy.
