CLE Credit Details
The Copyright Society is an accredited provider in California, New York, and Pennsylvania. MCLE Credits will be available for those jurisdictions, and requests for credit in other jurisdictions may be made when registering. While credit in other jurisdictions is not guaranteed, Copyright Society staff will submit applications for accreditation and notify attorneys upon approval.
This intermediate program is appropriate for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys.
Arizona: Attorneys must self report their CLE hours. A certificate of attendance will be provided for your records.
California: The Copyright Society is an accredited provider in California (6.5 CLE Credits).
Colorado: New York is an approved jurisdiction (7.5 CLE Credits).
Florida: Approved for 8.00 CLE general credits.
Georgia: Approved for 6.5 CLE general credit hours.
Illinois: Approved for 6.5 CLE general credit hours.
New Hampshire: Attorneys must self report their CLE hours. A certificate of attendance will be provided for your records.
New Jersey: New York is an approved jurisdiction (7.5 CLE Credits).
New Mexico: Approved for 6.5 CLE general credit hours.
New York: The Copyright Society is an Accredited New York State MCLE Provider. This intermediate program is appropriate for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys (7.5 CLE Credits).

Ontario: Attorneys must self report their CPD substantive hours. A certificate of attendance will be provided for your records.

Session 4: Latest Developments in Music Copyright Infringement Cases: Perspectives from Expert Musicologists, Practitioners, and Trial Attorneys
This panel will provide an update on how courts have been applying new standards for finding copyright infringement of musical compositions and sound recordings. It will also give attendees a chance to hear the songs at the heart of some recent infringement claims, and to participate in a discussion of whether the courts have consistently and appropriately applied prevailing legal principles.

Session 5: Lessons in Collaboration: Exploring Voluntary Measures to Address Platform Liability
This panel will provide an overview of the current status of platform liability, including the challenge for platforms to avail themselves of DMCA Safe Harbor while still monitoring user-generated content on their platform. Acknowledging the legal and practical challenges presented by potentially infringing user-generated content (particularly in light of the widespread use of generative AI, in which infringing content is not as easy to detect), this panel aims to bring together technologists, content owners, and platforms to explore voluntary measures for addressing this issue. We will talk about measures like YouTube’s ContentID, voluntary takedown processes, and other rights management solutions and how they may be adapted for different types of content.

Join us for a rousing exchange of views with both sides of the debate on whether generative AI’s use of copyrighted material is fair or infringing. The conversation will include a discussion of the current fair use landscape, how generative AI models actually work, and the various cases currently being litigated across the country.

Breaking News: Warner Chappell Music v. Nealy SCOTUS Decision
Close out the annual meeting with breaking news from the Supreme Court. This segment will cover the Court’s decision in Warner Chappell Music, Inc. v. Nealy, which declined to find a three-year limit on copyright damages, the dissent’s views on the statute of limitations more broadly and what may come next in this area.
