Professor Mark F. Schultz is the Goodyear Endowed Chair in Intellectual Property Law and Director of the IP Law Program at the University of Akron School of Law. Prior to coming to Akron, he was a co-founder and leader of the Center for Protection of Intellectual Property (CPIP) at George Mason University in Washington, D.C., where he remains a non-resident Senior Scholar. He also serves as a Senior Fellow of the Geneva Network, a UK-based think tank focused on international IP and health policy.

His research focuses on the law and economics of the global intellectual property system. Recent projects include work on the contribution of the creative industries to national economic development and the role of IP in the global fight against Covid-19.

Prof. Schultz is frequently called on to help national governments and international organizations with IP policy and capacity building. Projects have included working with the OECD to co-author a groundbreaking global trade secret protection index (the TSPI) and chairing an ongoing public-private multilateral diplomatic dialogue on improving national trade secret laws. He has testified before the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives on copyright law and presented to numerous universities, think tanks, and industry groups. He is a member of and former chair of the Academic Advisory Board of the Copyright Alliances.
