Jamie Coghill, Esq. is a partner at Surpin, Mayersohn & Coghill, LLP, where he and his partners have built an internationally recognized law practice at the intersection of entertainment, media, technology, and intellectual property. Since joining the firm in 2009 and becoming a named partner in 2016, Jamie represents an expansive roster of talent, production companies, video game studios, and other rightsholders.
In addition to talent in the film and TV industries, Jamie’s clients include a long list of New York Times bestselling authors and illustrators. He is particularly known for his work in the children’s content space and for guiding clients through licensing, acquisition, and exploitation of rights across books, films, television, video games, life stories, and IP libraries. His practice spans the full lifecycle of content creation, from early development through financing, production, distribution, and merchandising. For this reason, Jamie is often called upon to act as financing, production legal, and/or distribution counsel on independent film and television projects.
Jamie has also served as outside business affairs and/or legal counsel for film distributors, sales agencies, book publishers, literary agencies, and new media, Web-3, and blockchain technology companies, bringing his practical, business‑minded approach to complex deals presenting novel issues.
A graduate of UCLA School of Law’s Entertainment and Media Law and Policy Program, Jamie served as Chief Managing Editor of the Entertainment Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Cincinnati
