Abbas Lightwalla is the Director of Global Legal Policy at IFPI, where he oversees efforts to secure robust legal protections for music markets worldwide. He is dedicated to advancing the role of copyright in fostering investment in music and enabling the licensing of digital music services. With expertise at the intersection of emerging technologies and copyright law, Abbas leads IFPI’s policy initiatives on artificial intelligence.
Before joining IFPI in 2020, Abbas was an associate in the intellectual property department of the international law firm Bird & Bird, where he advised clients in the music, entertainment, and tech industries on intellectual property infringement and licensing matters related to content use by digital services
