About

Angus MacDonald is the Deputy General Counsel and the lead intellectual property lawyer for the University of California (UC) system.

Angus’ practice primarily focuses on copyright and trademark matters throughout the UC system. He also manages a team of UC lawyers focused on business transactions, intellectual property, investments, procurement, joint ventures, public finance, charitable giving, trusts & estates, real estate, land use, and environment, health & safety.

Prior to joining the UC system in 2013, Angus worked as an in-house attorney at several technology companies in the Silicon Valley, including as the General Counsel of a digital music service. He began his legal career at the intellectual property firm, Townsend and Townsend and Crew (now known as Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton), where he became a partner.

Angus is the current chair of the California Lawyers Association’s copyright committee. He has been the chair or co-chair of this statewide committee for the past nine years. Angus also leads various other copyright-related committees within and outside the UC system.
