Legal Counsel at SOCAN
Adam is Legal Counsel at Society of Composers, Authors & Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN). He is actively involved in the certification and enforcement of SOCAN’s tariffs, including tariff-setting proceedings before the Copyright Board of Canada and litigation before the Federal Court. Adam’s work also includes music licensing, and negotiating vendor and other third-party agreements with a focus on technology. Adam is also involved in advising on SOCAN’s privacy and data practices.
Before joining SOCAN in July 2019, Adam was a partner at Hayes eLaw LLP, an intellectual property and privacy law boutique in Toronto. His practice included litigation before the Ontario and Federal Courts, tariff-setting proceedings before the Copyright Board of Canada and advising clients on a variety of IP, technology and privacy issues. Prior to that, Adam was a judicial law clerk for the Honourable Justice James O’Reilly of the Federal Court.
