The Art of Protest & Activism

February 22, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Art has long been a source of social and political commentary. As much as it entertains and appeases the senses, art often takes on the even more noble task of documenting history, amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, and expressing particular views about society. As “the engine of free expression” copyright plays an important role in not only encouraging this kind of expression, but also in protecting it. This panel will explore the views of both copyright practitioners and artists on the state of copyright law as it relates to spontaneous protest art, and the use of unlicensed music in political campaigns and messaging.
