Separating Rights from Wrongs: The Ethics of Enforcement When: September 24, 2014 at 12:00pm - 2:00pm EDT - This event has passed Separating Rights from Wrongs: The Ethics of Enforcement The New York Chapter invites you to attend the first program of its 2014-15 season to discuss ethics in copyright enforcement. Katie Lachter, partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, will take us through the ethical issues that arise when a lawyer is enforcing IP rights for a client, receiving a cease-and-desist letter in a client matter, and when she or he is aware that a client may be infringing a third party’s copyright. The program will also touch on how social media plays a role in attorney conduct when representing copyright owners and users for enforcement matters. The Copyright Society of the USA is a New York State Approved CLE Provider. This course will provide 1 ethics credit. Katie Lachter is a partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP and a member of the firm’s national Lawyers for the Profession practice group. Ms. Lachter focuses her practice on attorney professional responsibility and risk management. She is a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School, where she teaches the Professional Responsibility course. She is also a member of the City Bar Association’s Committee on Professional Ethics, and is a frequent writer and speaker on issues relating to legal ethics. Ms. Lachter was selected as a 2014 Rising Star by Super Lawyers, and is a 2012 recipient of the Burton Award for distinguished legal writing. Ms. Lachter is a graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude), and Dartmouth College (B.A., summa cum laude).
