“Petrella v. MGM”: Has Raging Bull Opened the Flood Gates?

When: April 17, 2015 at 12:00pm - 12:01pm EDT - This event has passed

Join our PhiStephanos Bibasladelphia Chapter for a conversation with Stephanos Bibas, the attorney who represented petitioner Paula Petrella in her successful Supreme Court appeal against MGM over copyright infringement of the screenplay that led to the movie Raging Bull.

The case holding, that the doctrine of laches cannot bar damages claims otherwise brought within the Copyright Act’s statute of limitations, has recently been invoked as an argument in a high profile patent case, and may also have implications in the trademark realm as well.

Professor Bibas will describe what it was like to prepare and argue the case, offer some observations from the Justices’ reactions, and discuss the case’s aftermath as it is playing out in other areas of IP law.

More about Professor Bibas here.
