Judicial Perspectives on Copyright Litigation

Hon. Wendy Beetlestone.  aJudge Beetlestone received her judicial commission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on November 21, 2014. Judge Beetlestone was born in Nigeria, was a journalist at BBC and CNN, a news producer at Channel 10, and then pursued her longstanding interest in the law by attending the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She interned for Judge Jan E. DuBois and served as a law clerk for the late Judge Robert Gawthrop, III. Judge Beetlestone was an associate, then partner, at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP where she practiced civil litigation. She then served as the General Counsel for the School District of Philadelphia before returning to the private practice as a shareholder at Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller. Judge Beetlestone was active in numerous community and professional organizations before taking the bench.

Hon. Mitchell S. Goldberg.  Judge Goldberg was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on October 31, 2008. In 2017, the Chief Judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals appointed Judge Goldberg to sit as a visiting judge in the District of Delaware (in addition to his work in the E.D. Pa.) to assist the court with its heavy patent/IP caseload. Since that appointment, Judge Goldberg has handled approximately 100 such cases. Judge Goldberg’s career as a practicing attorney started at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office where he worked in both the trial and appellate divisions. He later joined and became a partner at the law firm of Cozen O’Connor, where his practice focused on commercial litigation. Judge Goldberg returned to the public sector in 1997, serving as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania where he handled mostly white collar crime cases. Judge Goldberg is a graduate of Temple Law School.

Hon. Joshua D. Wolson. Judge Wolson was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in May 2018.  He was renominated in May 2019, confirmed by the Senate on May 2, 2019, and received his commission on May 28, 2019.  Judge Wolson earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.  After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk for Hon. Jan E. DuBois of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  He then maintained a commercial litigation practice, including antitrust, RICO, intellectual property, class action, First Amendment, and commercial contract disputes, first as an associate with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., and then as a partner with Dilworth Paxson in Philadelphia.
