How Blockchain Technology May Impact Copyright Permissions, Prohibitions and Obligations.

 

 

A cutting edge program on blockchain technology implementation for smart contract and DMCA uses, provenance and authenticity in photography and visual art, royalty management, chain-of-title recordation and fraud reduction in secondary sales. The program will also examine how direct and indirect infringement should be assessed in the world of blockchain, including whether blockchain leaves room for fair use.

SPEAKERS:

Edward Klaris is the Managing Partner of Klaris Law PLLC, a media, entertainment and intellectual property law firm based in New York, and he is Chief Executive Officer of KlarisIP, a firm focusing on IP rights management, content supply-chain management, and royalties and participations in the entertainment business.  Before starting his firm, Ed was Senior Vice President, intellectual property assets and rights, at Condé Nast, where led a department of about 50 people, managing, protecting, and monetizing content assets.  Ed was General Counsel of The New Yorker for more than six years, media counsel at ABC, Inc., and a litigation attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine, a leading IP and media firm.  Ed has been an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School since 2005, where he teaches an upper-level IP and media law seminar.  

 

Jeffrey Neuburger is co-head of Proskauer’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications Group, head of the Firm’s Blockchain Group, and a member of the firm’s Privacy and Data Security Group. Jeff’s practice focuses on technology, media and intellectual property-related transactions, counseling and dispute resolution.  That expertise, coupled with his prior academic and professional experience in computer science with General Electric, makes him a true leader in the field.

One of the originators of the discipline of technology law, Jeff continues to lead on a range of business-critical transactions involving the use of emerging technology and distribution methods. For example, Jeff has become one of the leading private practice lawyers in the country for the implementation of blockchain-based technology solutions, helping clients in a wide variety of industries capture the business opportunities presented by the rapid evolution of blockchain.  Jeff counsels on a variety of e-commerce, social media, and advertising matters; represents many organizations in infrastructure-related projects, such as outsourcing, technology acquisitions, cloud computing initiatives and related services agreements; advises on the implementation of biometric technology; and represents clients on a wide range of data aggregation, privacy and data security matters. Jeff also assists clients on a wide range of issues related to intellectual property and publishing matters both in the context of technology-based applications and in more traditional media as well.

MVG worked with prominent national and international brands, winning the Design Build Institute of America’s national award for its cutting-edge store design for Lavazza Coffee. MVG was also one of the companies that was instrumental in T-Mobile’s original national expansion in the US.
