Tools that use artificial intelligence to create, or contribute to the creation, of various artistic works have recently exploded in popularity. Tools and services like DALL-E and Midjourney for visual works, Amper Music for musical works, CoPilot for source code, and ChatGPT for text have garnered millions of users and made headlines worldwide. The use of these and other AI systems raise a number of copyright-related questions and concerns, including how much is too much AI contribution to qualify as a copyrightable work. These questions have been the subject of considerable policy-making activity and scholarship but are now presenting themselves in real-life use cases.
