Eleventh Circuit Roundup When: November 12, 2020 at 2:00pm - 3:00pm EST - This event has passed ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Florida Chapter is hosting its inaugural Eleventh Circuit roundup. Join our panel members for a lively discussion of recent cases and developments in the circuit. SPEAKERS: Allison S. Lovelady is a partner at Shullman Fugate PLLC. She focuses primarily on intellectual property, media law, and defamation and privacy matters. Allison routinely handles subpoenas and access issues for various media outlets. Her daily practice also includes copyright and trademark prosecution, negotiation and licensing for clients ranging from music distributors, food trucks and entertainment websites to small and large businesses. She has also appeared in the United States Supreme Court on internet defamation issues, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Florida Supreme Court and Florida Appellate Courts on trademark and copyright infringement and media access issues. Allison has litigated client name, likeness, and intellectual property use in motion pictures, reality television, music videos, and commercials. She also handles public performance licensing for commercial businesses and has previously secured licensing for large scale festivals like the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. She is licensed to practice in Florida, the United States Supreme Court and before all District Courts in Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Allison is proud to have served as legal counsel and part of the Board of Trustees for the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood. Jenna L. Fischman is an associate in the Miami office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Appellate and Complex Business and Commercial Litigation Practices. Jenna has extensive experience in litigating intellectual property disputes. Recently, Jenna was recognized by Best Lawyers in America 2021 “Ones to Watch” for commercial litigation. Prior to joining Lewis Brisbois, Jenna clerked for the Honorable Jonathan Goodman of the Southern District of Florida. Leo M. Lichtman is an associate in Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp’s Litigation Practice Group. Leo’s practice focuses on copyright and other intellectual property and commercial litigation with a particular concentration on entertainment, media, and technology disputes. Leo represents leading businesses and individuals across a number of industries in high-stakes litigation, including music, film and television, visual arts, publishing, sports, and retail goods, and has significant experience both affirmatively protecting his clients’ copyright and trademark rights as well as defending clients against infringement allegations. Leo counsels clients at all stages of litigation, from pre-litigation counseling to trial and appeal.Prior to joining the firm, Leo was an associate at Oppenheim + Zebrak LLP, where he worked on cutting-edge issues at the intersection of content and technology. While at O+Z, Leo regularly advised content owners with respect to online enforcement of intellectual property, which included designing and implementing anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting enforcement programs and engaging in all aspects of litigation, from instituting an action to final judgment. James M. Slater (Moderator) is an associate at Shullman Fugate PLLC. James has extensive experience in software licensing, trademark clearance and prosecution, publishing, entertainment, and data privacy and security matters. He also represents individuals and entities in copyright, trademark, speech-related, and internet-related disputes. Prior to joining Shullman Fugate, James practiced at several boutique firms where he represented clients in intellectual property transactions and litigation. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Chris M. McAliley of the Southern District of Florida. Before law practice, James spent several years working in Russia in the administration of a U.S. State Department program and as an interpreter and translator. He also participated in the selective National Security Education Program’s Russian Overseas Flagship program in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
