ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Join our distinguished panel to discuss hot topics in copyright and sports, including broadcasting and archive footage, athlete endorsements and rights, fan art and fan footage, protection of team and league art, uniform/shoe design, use of music, and more.


SPEAKERS:

 

Jonathan Goins is AV-peer rated by Martindale-Hubbell® for Intellectual Property, and is Co-Chair of Lewis Brisbois LLP’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group. With over 17 years of experience, Jonathan serves as lead counsel in litigating cases nationally for a wide range of clients involving trademarks, copyrights, and right of publicity. Jonathan also serves as General Counsel to the National Bar Association, and since 2012, has lectured on copyright, trademark, entertainment, and sports law courses as an Adjunct Professor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.




Dana Jozefczyk is Associate General Counsel – Intellectual Property for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. In her role with the USOPC, Dana handles the prosecution and management of a broad portfolio of intellectual property rights, including copyrights and trademarks. Before joining the USOPC, Dana was a Partner at Merchant & Gould P.C., where she managed the trademark practice out of the firm’s Denver office.


Daniel Kaufman 
is the Managing Director for SportTechie where he is responsible for developing and implementing SportTechie’s strategic plans and driving the organization’s success. Dan’s passion for the intersection of sports and technology has provided him with the expertise to transform and build SportTechie over the years. Prior to his time at SportTechie, he negotiated collective bargaining agreements for the MLB umpires and NBA referees unions, managed business and legal affairs at a sports and entertainment agency, litigated the case that was the basis for the movie The Social Network, and co-founded and managed Ballengee Group, an athlete management and marketing agency. Dan currently teaches sports law, contracts, and negotiations at Georgetown University.

Michael Poterala is the Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel at the University of Maryland, where he serves as an adviser and counselor to the University President and other officials on strategic, legal, policy, and risk management issues. Michael is a member of the Athletics Council and chairs the Big Ten Academic Alliance General Counsel group.


Brooke Wilner (Moderator) is an Associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP. Brooke specializes in complex copyright, trademark, and patent litigation. Brooke represents both intellectual property owners and accused infringers across a broad range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, travel, entertainment, consumer products, software, and hardware.

Refunds must be requested in writing at least three business days before the event. Refunds will not be issued after that point.
