Copyright Across Borders When: June 13, 2023 at 9:00am - 10:00am EDT - This event has passed An international panel of experts will explore the ways in which copyright laws in the UK, EU and China can create unexpected issues for US practitioners. In all industries copyright is increasingly exploited on an international basis but the laws that apply in major international markets often differ from the US in significant ways, creating implications for cross-border transactions and disputes. Our panel will examine the practical impacts of these differences, including in relation to (i) copyright subsistence (open vs closed list of protected subject matter, differing thresholds for originality), (ii) ownership in the absence of the work made for hire concept, (iii) restrictions on and formal requirements for assignments and licensing, (iv) restricted acts and infringement, (v) alternative defences to fair use, (vi) differing treatments of moral rights, (vii) mandatory contractual safeguards for creators, and (viii) available remedies.
