Columbia Law School: Annual Manges Lecture

When: March 25, 2024 at 6:00pm - 7:30pm EDT - This event has passed
Where: Jerome Greene Hall

The Horace S. Manges Lecture & Conference Fund was established by the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges in 1986 in memory of its esteemed partner, Horace S. Manges, Law ’19. Mr. Manges was a distinguished trial lawyer and was counsel to leading writers and publishers and to the American Book Publishers Council (now the Association of American Publishers). A founder, officer and trustee of the Copyright Society, he also performed important government service and played an active role in the development of copyright legislation.

The 2024 Speaker will be Dale Cendali of Kirkland & Ellis, who will discuss the litigators’ role in shaping the legal doctrine by developing the facts of a given case and establishing its ties to existing law.  She will conclude with some brief thoughts on current issues in litigating fair use, including the increased focus on the second factor, the greater attention now being paid to the role of juries in deciding fair use, and how artificial intelligence is affecting the legal landscape.

Reception to follow.
