The Copyright Act Never Goes Out of Fashion

Congress passed the current copyright statute as a whole in 1976 but ever since has been accreting amendments, sections, and whole titles to it.  One of the perennial matters to arise in that regard is clothing the subject matter of fashion designs with copyright protection.  This year’s Meyer Lecture looks at those proposals as the prism through which to investigate the progression of the Copyright Act through to its current multifaceted instantiation.

Christopher A. Meyer passionately believed in the rights of authors to both control the commercial exploitation of their expression and to draw from the expressions of others when creating new works.  After Mr. Meyer’s death in 1999, the firm Meyer, Klipper & Mohr, PLLC established a lecture series for prominent practitioners and academics to set forth their views on current trends in copyright law and related issues.
