Applications are currently being accepted for Summer and Fall 2026 for Externs, Interns, and Volunteers. The applications are reviewed and offers made on a first-come, first serve basis.

What is a Copyright Society Fellow (CSF)?

Copyright Society Student Fellows are students that want to gain more experience and connections with copyright professionals.  We want our fellows to become the future leaders and voices in copyright, and the Copyright Society.  Students work with industry leaders, scholars, and practitioners on copyright-related tasks, and gain connections and experience in the field of copyright.

What does a CSF do?

Copyright Society Fellows are students who work with the Journal of the Copyright Society to help us produce the issues, symposium, and the podcast.  Students may also be assigned to Copyright Society committees to assist the Chair, help and blog about events, and work with the Executive Director and/or others on special projects.

The fellowship term varies, depending on the requirements of the sending school.  But the options are: a minimum number of required hours, a semester, or a year.  If you are an independent volunteer applicant, the requirement is a minimum of 50 volunteer hours.

Who Can Apply?

Law students may apply, with the understanding that they will put in at least 40 hours a semester working on the journal as volunteers, or alternatively the required number of hours as interns or externs for credit from their law school.

Other undergraduate and graduate students may also apply.  They may be assigned editing tasks for the journal, but will more likely be required to work on the blog and website content as part of their hours.  We usually have special projects going, and so this is where at least 40 hours of their time would be focused.  We encourage students of all backgrounds to apply, as that makes for a better experience for all. This includes students studying music, business, video games, art, literature, marketing and social media, data analytics, to name just a few.

We also encourage students with an art background to apply as well.  We take a limited number of students with graphic and illustration background to work with our Art Director in creating illustrations, graphic journalism, charts, and other materials that assist in communicating copyright.
