Sari Depreeuw is a partner within the IP/IT team at Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office and a part-time professor at the UCLouvain/Saint-Louis Bruxelles, where she teaches Intellectual Property and Media law. She has a distinctive expertise in copyright law and digital law (software, data, IT contracts). Her extensive background in copyright law, combined with her deep understanding of emerging technologies, gives her a unique position in the Belgian legal market.

She serves clients in the audiovisual sector, book publishing and in the sector of digital technologies (IT outsourcing, software and SaaS providers, data analytics, IoT and AI). 

Her doctoral dissertation on the scope of protection afforded by the exclusive rights under copyright in the light of web search engine technologies, was published in 2014 (The Variable Scope of the Exclusive Economic Rights in Copyright, Kluwer Law International). She is a co-author of two studies commissioned by the European Commission, preparing the copyright review that led to the Copyright in the Digital Single Market Directive, and a study on copyright in the audiovisual sector for the Belgian government. Sari has published many articles and book contributions on Belgian, European and international copyright and contributes to conferences and seminars on a regular basis (on copyright, digital law and the access to and use of data). 

She is also president of the Belgian Copyright Association and a member of the editorial board of Computerrecht, a peer-reviewed, Dutch-Belgian IT journal.

Sari is acknowledged by the legal guide Legal 500 as a Leading Partner in the fields of Intellectual Property and IT & Telecoms.
