Matt Hervey

Matt Hervey is a leading expert on Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property. 

He is Head of Legal and Policy at Human Native AI, which is building a marketplace to enable rightsholders to license their copyright content for training AI. Through this role, he engages with stakeholders including media companies and AI developers and is involved in policy setting at national and EU level.

Matt is General Editor of The Law of Artificial Intelligence (Sweet & Maxwell) and author of the chapters on IP. He has been described as “one of the leading global experts in AI and IP” by the UN’s World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2022 for leadership in the field of AI. He has worked with WIPO on its guidelines on Generative AI, its international “Conversations” on AI and IP and its engagements with national governments.

He has been recognised in Chambers & Partners as a Global Market Leader for AI and in IAM Strategy 300 (the World’s Leading IP Strategists), IAM Strategy 300 Global Leaders and in IAM 1000 as “a recognised authority on AI”.
