Dr. Janet Nepkie Distinguished Service Professor SUNY Oneonta I have extensive experience as an educator and administrator at institutions of higher education, with particular emphasis on the large and successful Music Industry program I developed to its present enrollment of more than 200 students at SUNY Oneonta. I teach the “Legal Issues in the Music Industry” class, which explores Copyright Law and related Music and Entertainment industry agreements. I administer a large internship program that promotes professional experience throughout the United States for undergraduate students and strong interaction with industry representatives. I am active in development of Distance Learning initiatives and policies and have taught classes in distance learning and hybrid formats to an international audience. I developed and taught a course on virtual promotion and event production in the virtual world, Second Life.com. I have served as Chair of the SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2) and have great interest in Open Educational Resources and related issues of copyright protection. I have presented numerous conferences on intellectual property and computer law and policy as they relate to academia. Conference speakers for those events have included several members of the Copyright Society of the USA. I serve as Principal ‘Cellist for several orchestras including the Glimmerglass Festival. My undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Music were earned at the University of Michigan and my Ph.D. in Related Arts was earned at New York University, where I have also served as a Visiting Associate Professor.
