Erica Carter is the Founder and Principal of Carter Advisory PLLC, a legal and strategic advisory firm that helps companies, creators, and investors identify risk, solve complex problems, and execute high-stakes business decisions with clarity. She operates as a fractional general counsel, senior deal strategist, and trusted advisor across entertainment, gaming, technology, media, and consumer products.

Prior to founding Carter Advisory, Erica served as Senior Counsel, Legal and Business Affairs at Epic Games, where she advised across a broad portfolio of products and initiatives, including Fortnite, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, MegaGrants, and company-wide DEI efforts. Her work spanned partner content and music licensing, content development and production, accessibility, IP protection and enforcement, ecommerce, regulatory matters, player health and safety, new product launches, and mergers and acquisitions due diligence. She also managed Epic’s relationship with SAG-AFTRA and negotiated and drafted complex agreements across the ecosystem. In 2022, Erica organized and implemented Epic’s global philanthropic campaign in response to the war in Ukraine, which raised and distributed $144 million in humanitarian aid.

Before Epic Games, Erica was Counsel in the Legal and Business Affairs department at Sesame Workshop, where she supported the organization’s global content and brand initiatives. Her practice included advising on content production, marketing, social media, communications, collaborations, special events, speaker programming, themed entertainment, and international outreach, particularly in Latin America. She also handled intellectual property protection, licensing, employment matters, policy development, and clearance issues. During her tenure, she was selected to serve on internal leadership committees focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as senior-level operational strategy.

Earlier in her career, Erica worked in-house at The Collective (Marc Ecko / Ecko Unlimited), advising on legal and business affairs in the fashion and creative industries.

In addition to her advisory practice, Erica is a recognized leader in the legal community. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Copyright Society as the Member-at-Large and has previously held roles including Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and New York City Chapter Co-Chair. She is a member of the Brooklyn Law School Alumni Board, an advisor to the Brooklyn Law School Sports and Entertainment Law Blog, and an active mentor to emerging lawyers and executives. In 2019, she received the Brooklyn Law School Entertainment and Sports Law Society Alumni of the Year Award, and in March 2025, she was named Brooklyn Law School Rising Star of the Year, recognizing her professional impact and leadership in the legal industry.

Erica earned her J.D. and Certificate in Intellectual Property, Media, and Information Law from Brooklyn Law School, where she received the Gwen J. Greenberg Prize and a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Negotiations. She holds a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Public Relations from Belmont University, where she was an NCAA Division I student-athlete. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
