Alex Peterson is an intellectual property litigator at Torys LLP whose practice focuses on copyright, patents and other IP-adjacent commercial litigation.

Alex’s copyright litigation practice includes appearing as counsel in precedent‑setting disputes that have shaped Canadian copyright law (including the Copyright Pentalogy, as the five landmark rulings of the Supremer Court of Canada in 2012 are known), proceedings before the Copyright Board of Canada, as well as acting as counsel for leading innovators in emerging generative‑AI–related copyright matters.

Alex is known for her effective management of technically complex cases, and has appeared as counsel before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
