CONNECT Music Licensing



Richard Pfohl is General Counsel to both Music Canada, which represents the major Canadian recording companies, and to CONNECT Music Licensing, which represents over 5000 recording companies, actively licensing new technologies to bring music to Canadians on behalf of the recording industry. Richard is Vice-Chair and Copyright Rapporteur of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Intellectual Property Commission, co-chair of the Copyright Society’s International Chapter, a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), and has served as President of Re:Sound (then known as NRCC) — which represents all Canadian recording companies and performers before the Copyright Board — and as a director of the Canadian IT Law Association. He has testified before Canadian Parliamentary committees, the Canadian Copyright Board, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and has taught internet and digital commerce law at the University of Toronto Law School and in the Osgoode Hall Law School LL.M. and LL.B. programs. Prior to joining Music Canada and CONNECT, Richard was a partner in the Technology, Communications and Intellectual Property group of McCarthy Tétrault. He served as Counsel to the US Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Technology, and to Senator Dianne Feinstein.
