Steven T. Lowe Lowe & Associates Steven T. Lowe is the founder and Managing Partner of Lowe & Associates, a boutique civil litigation and entertainment firm, located in Beverly Hills, California. Founded in 1991, the firm has successfully resolved many important cases in the areas of copyright, trademark, defamation, business and entertainment law. The firm is most known for championing the rights of creative professionals in the entertainment industry. Mr. Lowe is the co- founder and current president of the artist rights/advocacy organization known as the California Society of Entertainment Lawyers (“CSEL”). He has also authored multiple important articles on copyright law, including “Death of Copyright” (2010) (which is required reading at UCLA Law School, among others) and “Death of Copyright 3: The Awakening” (2018). Mr. Lowe has recently chaired and moderated multiple continuing legal education events including “Termination Rights Under Copyright Law: Reclaiming Works for Authors” in November 2021, and “Lights, Camera, Libel: Current Trends in the Law of Defamation and Invasion of Privacy” in November 2022. Also in 2022, at Mr. Lowe’s direction, CSEL filed amicus briefs in favor of the appellant in two important cases; both courts reversed the lower court and ruled in favor of the creator/appellant. See, Unicolors, Inc., v. H&M Hennes & Mauritz, L.P., et al., (finding that mistakes of the copyright registration forms should not invalidate the registration); Francesca Gregorini v. Apple Inc., et al., (finding sufficient substantial similarity between television show on Apple and 1993 movie to reverse dismissal). Mr. Lowe graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1980 and the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1984. He is admitted to practice before the California Bar (1985), the Central District of California (1986), the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (1989) and the United States Supreme Court (2014).
