Making the Most Out of Logos, Product Designs and Packaging:

Practice Tips and Trends for Non-Traditional Copyrights

With Alicia Groos and Adam Mandell

Please join our Texas Chapter for its inaugural meeting of the 2014-2015 season, cosponsored by the Entertainment & Sports Law Section of the Austin Bar Association (ESLABA)

Traditionally, copyright protection was reserved for artistic works such as books, music and the like. These days, however, companies commonly seek copyright protection for logos, product designs and packaging, in order to enhance their rights. Join a panel of copyright attorneys for a discussion of how established copyright doctrines like authorship, merger, first sale and useful article apply to these types of “works.” Also, get pointers on whether to seek registration, how best to do it, options if you are refused, and how the new draft of the Compendium III will affect registration practice.
