Building Character: Opportunities and Challenges in the Field of IP Rights for Fictional Characters

Join the New York Chapter for a lunch-time roundtable discussion about character protection. This panel will focus on the protection of copyright rights in characters, and will include discussion of strategies for developing a character into a copyrightable property, using trademark law to complement copyright protection, and addressing the challenges posed by expiring copyright terms.  The panel will also explore considerations for parties desiring to use public domain literary characters, including the pitfalls associated with evaluating public domain status.

This program is a companion to the Character in Copyrights: Second to the Right and Straight On Till Morning, This Way to the Public Domain program.

CLE Credit Details

The Copyright Society is an accredited provider in California, New York, and Pennsylvania. MCLE Credits will be available for those jurisdictions. While credit in other jurisdictions is not guaranteed, requests may be made when registering.
